My office is only about 6 miles from my home, but I've mapped out several routes to add some distance and avoid busy roads. My 13-mile route includes a 6-mile stretch on the Minuteman Bikeway. It is beautiful in the morning, cycling through the woods, on smooth pavement, without having to worry about cars. Other days I take a shorter (8-mile) route that goes on some nice country roads.
