My commute is partly suburban but mostly urban with a short ride through a river parkway. I try to avoid the really busy streets, but I have commuted on them a fair amount during the summer months. I would prefer a more rural setting, but I can live with the commute, avoiding car traffic to a large degree.
I am a computer consultant (self employed), so have a desk job all of the time. The morning and evening commute times help me stay in shape while reducing stress.
