Palo Alto has many bike lanes as well as a bicycle priority boulevard with traffic calming, barriers, diverters and loop detectors. My commute primarily uses this boulevard and except for about a four block stretch, bicycle lanes. Previously for the past 17 years I commuted in San Francisco which was quite a different, to say the least.

Bicycling in San Francisco can be like urban warfare although a place like Palo Alto is not immune from the malaise caused by personal automobiles. It's great to bicycle in either place.
