Commutes 16 Miles RoundTrip for 2 years and 3 months
Seven days a week, my bike is my primary transportation Year Round

I ride on country roads most of the time, the speed limit is 45 mph. At the end of my commute I am in a small city of about 15,000. Yes it is small, but it is a tourest town and I have to deal with 10,000 cars a day on the main road. I get to ride all year long. The two lane roads are nice and I try to stay off the 4 lanes.

I am living a car-free life. The only time that I drive a car is if I have to carry something that is to big for my recumbent (i.e. stove, easy chair, or bank safe.) I carry a change of clothes with me when I go to work, I have to down here you start sweating when you walk out the door. I love riding my bent, I love the looks I get. I have made a lot of new friends because of my new life.

First, I have to tell you that my family thinks that I am crazy. But, I love the way my life is going. I have had people yell at me, throw bottles at me, and not see me so I have to ride off the road; just like the rest of you. But the best thing that has ever happen to was at a local fesival, It was about two blocks from my home so I walked, during the time I was there I was ask at least 6 times "WHERE IS YOUR BIKE?" that is why I love riding my bike. They may not like it all the time, but I am one of the things that makes this a great place to live. I know that my neighbors watch out of me and make sure that I am safe.

I ride a recumbent (a bent), it is one of the best bikes for us middle age riders. I can go farther and faster than I could on a wedgie (oh sorry, an upright bike.) Plus I do not have any of the pain. I love to know that there are more people like me that ride to work and ride for life; it makes me feel great. Let's keep it going. If you are ever down here let me know and maybe we can go for a ride.
