20 miles each way, with the first 3.5 on a mountain dirt road. I generally don't ride if I know the weather will be inclement, but I do ride in the dark when the days get short. I ride in the winter when the weather permits, having finally gotten a set of winter riding shoes last year. My standard commuter bike is a '71 Raleigh Professional with fenders and a rack. I typically ride with sewups, though I have a couple of bikes with clinchers for when the dirt road gets soft or the road crew spreads salt on the pavement. Sewups seem to be more flat resistant then light clinchers and I like to ride fast on my commutes. In winter, I will sometimes ride an old Fat Chance mountain bike.
